0NOTUNIX The examples for Learning Perl were prepared on a Unix system. Unix systems use a single line feed character (ASCII 10 decimal) to delimit the end of lines in a text file. Some systems, like MS-DOS and OS/2 use the combination of a carriage return (ASCII 13 decimal) followed by a line feed to delimit lines. Still other systems, like the Macintosh, use a single carriage return as the delimiter. The lines of text in this file are delimited by the carriage return, line feed combination. It may be necessary for you to modify the end-of-line characters in the example files before you can use them.
